New Version (coming soon) and other miscellaneous updates!
Here's a preview of what's soon going to be the new look of themak.org:
All critisism welcome for the new design.
The new theme is also going to mark a whole new version of themak.org, the move from the brilliant PALGN free hosting to an ASO shared hosting plan where I will also move this blog from Wordpress to a hand made django weblog platform.
I now only have 4 exams left until I've finished with my GCSEs, and I feel fairly confident about how I've done (which is good) and I'm now only a few short days away from purchasing my guitar and hosting package.

My OSX powertools.
This is a post devoted to the 'little things' that make using OSX fun for me. A long overdue last article for the week in apps series.
My Adium set up: as you can see this offers little clue as to who's online apart from their avatar(display picture, buddy icon etc.) However, I find that this approach uses far less screen space than having their name displayed. Growl is highly utilised with this approach as I assoiciate their icon when they log in, or mouse-over to find it. It's also set to auto-hide on the left hand side of my screen.- iClip4, this is essentially a multi-clipboard, which; for me is essential. I use it at the bottom of my screen where the Dock would usually go, and although it's slightly sluggish on my PPC mac mini- it's reasonable.
- The precise location of the dock- right and bottom aligned. (Using deeper) Small icons, hiding on and no magnification.
- Cytv this lets me watch tv on my ibook, whilst the tuner is plugged into my mac mini.
- Letterbox Mail plugin, because I spent too much time in Outlook 2003 before switching. Quicksilver and Visor. Emminently neccessary. Visor especially for living in a terminal window.

Zooomr Mark III
Hit photo-sharing website Zooomr is rolling out the long awaited and much anticipated Mark III, and should be finished by friday. All the best to them whilst they launch it.

jUploadr 1.1
Yay!

jUploadr 1.1 was released today, and now is probably the only Zooomr bulk uploader, and seems to be very good.

Hope for the weeks Zooomr updates
Over the next week the Zooomr team is going to be making some fairly major updates to progressively beta photo sharing site Zooomr.
Personally I hope for:
- Stories.
- Better support for privacy settings.
- The ability to edit those things that are locked from first upload.
A wordpress plugin.The bulk uploader.
And thanks to zooomr for the qouta reset.

Sxore 2 mockup (unofficial)
Recently I have been pointed to the sxore roadmap where they promise far tighter integration with wordpress for comments, such as using the wordpress comment database and form for the comment system. Also with the addition of multiple single sign on technologies. Yes, that is oxymoronic, but I won't tell anyone if you don't. I've been thinking about what the next version of the plugin will look like.

Zooomr
Zooomr fell through the net the last time I was looking for a photo-sharing site, but when I bumped into it- I saw something that wasn't available with the other contenders: to better Flickr- a liberal upload limit; and to better Riya- full size copies of the photographs.
Zooomr has been described by some as Flickr on steroids, and certainly has a plethora of unique features which Flickr is lacking. Although on the other hand Flickr has many features not in Zoomr and far better documentation.
The things that I would like to see in Zooomr are:
- More versatile searching.
- A bulk uploader.
- A wordpress plugin.
- The ability to edit tags from the browse page (or inspector).
- Better documentation and help.
- Easier lighmat for non googlemap areas.
- A way to mark a photo as favourite.
- Being able to flag a photo as offensive.

Opera 9
Opera 9 is being released by Opera today was recently released by Opera; and holds major improvements over version 8 and might just be enough over the technical preview to tempt me away from Camino- and it should show some signs of OperaDS.
Update:After giving Opera a go I can only flaw it on it's OSX integration; it really should be better. It needs to be able to switch to a textured window when demanded by skin, similar to the way it does on Windows. And it needs to support keychain- even if it is rudementary such as backing up the passwords to keychain and checking the keychain on startup. Above that I really like the full screen mode and would love tab bar support under it.
Might just have to import Opera DS.

RSS Reader showdown
After having used google reader on and off for a while (mostly off) I decided that it was time to look into a decent not-web based RSS reader that was good at serving me news. Firstly I had a few requirements:
- Must be free.
- Must not suck.
- Must not have too many annoying quirks.
So after some searching I found two candidates:
- Vienna
- NetNewsWire Lite N.B.: I'm sure the payed for version is far superior to the lite one.

Updates to site- and sxore
I've been updating the site and added some features such as those syndication buttons and updating the sxore plugin.
Now sxore is quite an interesting beast, I first heard about sxip when looking through the firefox roadmaps to see it's potential to tempt me back 
but I read a comment which linked to this quite amazing presentation which I found really interesting so I signed up for sxore within 10 minutes. After watching another highly energetic and interesting presentation.
