Forthcoming GCSE examinations.

This is going to be the last post until June the 25th. My GCSE exams are starting next month and contininuing at an alarming pace until late June. Lots of stress and less sleep than optimum, so I’m going to be studying as much as I can for the next few months. After that I’ve got to prepare for 6th form, get a summer job, and play through 3 Zeldas. :D There’s also a fairly awesome project in the works to program over the summer with a friend.

That’s it for a few months, wish me luck.

My OSX powertools.

This is a post devoted to the ‘little things’ that make using OSX fun for me. A long overdue last article for the week in apps series.

  1. My Adium Set up.My Adium set up: as you can see this offers little clue as to who’s online apart from their avatar(display picture, buddy icon etc.) However, I find that this approach uses far less screen space than having their name displayed. Growl is highly utilised with this approach as I assoiciate their icon when they log in, or mouse-over to find it. It’s also set to auto-hide on the left hand side of my screen.
  2. iClip4, this is essentially a multi-clipboard, which; for me is essential. I use it at the bottom of my screen where the Dock would usually go, and although it’s slightly sluggish on my PPC mac mini- it’s reasonable.
  3. The precise location of the dock- right and bottom aligned. (Using deeper) Small icons, hiding on and no magnification.
  4. Cytv this lets me watch tv on my ibook, whilst the tuner is plugged into my mac mini.
  5. Letterbox Mail plugin, because I spent too much time in Outlook 2003 before switching. Quicksilver and Visor. Emminently neccessary. Visor especially for living in a terminal window.

The Real Reason BT Phone Boxes are dying out.

I’ll give you a hint: it’s not the popularity of mobile phones.

It’s how insanely expensive it is to phone them. £1.40 to make a two calls, one that went to answerphone. And another that lasted barely a minute. In a world where communication is almost entirely ubiquitous, and for the most part cheap- Charging insane prices on payphones is a surefire way to kill them.

Just to add weight to this absurdity: I’ve phoned a British mobile phone from a payphone whilst on holiday, and it lasted 5 minutes for barely 50p.

Statist for OSX

Of immeasurable value.

In other news: Statistics coursework looking less like a 50 tonne weight descending on me. Normal updates resume other end of the tunnel.

Zooomr Mark III

Hit photo-sharing website Zooomr is rolling out the long awaited and much anticipated Mark III, and should be finished by friday. All the best to them whilst they launch it.

The Now Show- New Series & Podcast

The awesome BBC Radio4 comedy series The Now Show has returned with another series. But what makes it especially cool is that they’re serving them up as a podcast, so if you’ve missed the last two shows (or don’t live in England) you can download them from the beeb.
