A Clockwork Orange- Independents Banned Books Series

Cover of A clockwork orangeThe Independent are publishing their own hardback editions of 25 banned books- starting yesterday with the classic of "A Clockwork Orange."

This book has really emphasised the morality of choice to me although at times the use of 'nadsat' can make the book slightly confusing (although most of the time I did not need to consult the glossary for definitions).

The book discusses the theme on the wrongs of removing someones choice to be evil from them; it has an interesting undertone of a beggining of totalitarianism- with comments about political prisoners needing prison room.

The edition used here is the European one- and I feel this concludes the story in a better way than the American on (the one used in Kubricks movie adaptation).

In Germany

After a 4am start on wednesday, and a long journey- I'm (and have been for the past few days) in Germany on my third German exchange trip. I've been taking lots of photos- and should have some good ones to upload. Also, I've just bought myself a nice pari of Sennheiser 'phones (MX-55) :D , as my iPod ones are busted.

Photos to come, can't upload any for a few days.

Tonsillitis

Woke up on thursday to the odd feeling of my throat completely closed up. Not nice. No other symptoms whatsoever, which is quite weird but it's clearing up now (thanks to the marvel of modern medicine). I'm going to Germany on Wednesday so I'm going to take a brief hiatus- but I'm sure to return with some cool photos and a couple of ideas for blog posts.

Also I'm going to go and see the Barenaked ladies sometime in April, which should be quite cool. Quite cool indeed.

Also: themak.org is seemingly not working for some people so try alex.palgn.co.uk instead.
